Let's face it.....Gio is not a PP guy. He can spend some time on the second unit but he just isn't that skilled.
Great D man but this isn't his forte. Wideman, Brodie and Russell should fill most of the PP time this year. Then maybe a forward can slide back there every now and then. |

What do you think we can expect to see from Russell? I'm not sure how much of an opportunity he got in St.Louis, especially on the PP. I know he played mostly bottom pairing, so given the fact he should play a much larger role here in Calgary, can we expect 30 points from him?
Not sure how his number on the PP would compare to Gio's, or if he even got any PP time with the Blues. |

To be honest tho, the flames are just plain bad. Managment coaching etc were terrible for the ladt few seasons. The players are obviously human but are picked apart, disected and are sometimes thought of as robots. When the house is terrible the players prformance is more than likely going to be poop. Prime example is of the habs pre bergevin/therrien and after. Same players different personnel. Went from last to 2nd... I think the flames till have some mold in the cupboard ala king but is on the right path. |

Given he had 3 years in a consecutively of 21 22 and 23 pts before he went to STL,so IMO I think somewhere between 20-25 pts should be what your looking at.
I think it a smart move by Calgary picking him up though, for a fifth why not take a chance on him instead of some 30 something vet with no upside. |

Did you see the second table illustrating Gio's stats versus Brodie and Wideman? |

Haha talking in code. At the end of the day gios stats don't tell the real story. I think he's great andhas uunderperformed because of a terrible terrible group from ownership to coaching.
My point was look at the habs 2 years ago and then last year with new coachs new personell new management group. The playerd responded well and played to their potentials. I think the same case can be made for the flames |

Good article, but one thing to point out is that he isn't last in shots/60 minutes, meaning, well he could have just been the recipient of really, really bad luck on the PP last year. How often does his own shots get through to the net? How many shorties go in when he's on? Does he cycle well, or does his passes miss? Couple other things to look at. |

The Oiler fan talking whose team has not made the play offs for a century with countless number one over all draft picks used to draft midgets...LOL, what a joke!!!! |

Totally agree!!!
Recycling the 30-year-olds is what got us into this mess in the first place! |

Brilliant... Re-tread... Or retard... Your choice.
Anyhow, Gio IMO is a very solid, reliable defender whom I would love to have on the Oil. He has had to shoulder the burden of a rather thin blue line of late. |

Agreed!
Whole team was in shambles last year...but Gio is solid and hopefully he bounces back this year. Bottom line is he isn't a PP guy either.

I suspect that he will.
Everyone should benefit from the clarity that has been gained over the course of the past several months. The team/players now know the direction this franchise is taking. They can see the path to be taken, and they know what the expectations are... The only thing left to do is play he game. |

The bottom line is Gio is not a top pairing d-man, he is a #3 d-man. This year he will be played at #1 with a partner (Wideman), that should be nowhere near the top pairing. Its going to be ugly.

This is some pretty sensationalized commentary. Bottom line is you have no clue what the bottom line is. |
